On the 24th of October, Metropolis 2126 will take place in Arenberg, where visitors will wander past installations and visual art and be swept away by concerts, theatre, spoken word and dance performances. From hopeful utopias to confrontational dystopias: each performance offers a different perspective on the future, in an immersive experience where art, technology and society converge.

Drs. Apparatus

Drs. Apparatus occult scientist,

summons you mortals to his demonstration 

to scrutinize and dissect his mutation of narration

He’s been building a machine 

that operates as a portal to the inbetween. 

While investigating how to activate the Machine it becomes clear 

that mystical truth is hidden underneath layers of fear. 

Trying to figure out how to wield his subordinate powers 

Drs. Apparatus struggles severely, is lost for days and hours. 

Maintaining a work life-balance with his dysfunctional robot-family, 

who never asked to take part in this inexplicable scenery.

Our society is characterized by a culture saturated with images. Our bodies are constantly seen, compared, and monitored. The visibility of a body seems to be directly linked to its credibility.

In Illegibilis, five bodies search for anonymity. Not by making the body invisible, but by making it less recognizable.

Using an infrared camera, the details of the face, skin, and other visual characteristics disappear. What remains is the essence we share as human beings: energy and warmth.

What came first: the body or the rhythm?

Two figures try to function. They optimize, repeat, accelerate. Their days unfold according to the logic of a simulation in which nothing may be wasted and every movement must serve a purpose.

Until their bodies begin to fall out of sync.

Inspired by sleep deprivation, The Sims, A.I., push notifications, coffee bars, and their shared screen addiction, Lennert Van Nuffel and Indra Hauben create a physical, English-language performance about efficiency as a way of life, exhaustion as resistance, and the body as the last place where another rhythm can remain possible.

Lost Springs

Let’s tell the story of the anus. In Lost Springs, five performers swallow the carpet of civilization to weave, with the threads dangling between their legs, the tent for a new circus. An eclectic theatre piece that confronts the everyday pessimism of the world through the anus. The anus as an anchor for fiction. The anus as an oracle.

A dark space. A thunder sheet. A human anus on a transport trolley. The audience is invited to shine their light on that which we normally hide. A search for hope, pleasure, and the meaning of life — beyond shame.

We find the semiotics of the anus throughout every facet of history. From the medieval farce and Mozart to Freud and Cardi B. The anus as cesspit, the anus as the butt of the joke, the anus as drive, as slapstick humour. The waste gate of our universe. Where all the shit comes out.

Playfully, the anus crosses all boundaries, unlike the head, for which boundaries and possessions mean so much. In times of division and prudishness, we say: communize your anus. Because we all have one. The anus is what connects us. Open up your anus, let the light shine in. The weapon is modest, but the possibility of action is close by — and infinite. Not to provoke. Or maybe it is?
